Here are Inside Bainbridge recommendations for the weekend of April 17-19, 2015. Don’t forget it’s Earth Day this weekend, so do something nice for your Mother.

1. Movie Matinee: The Boxtrolls
When: Friday, 3:30-5:15 p.m.
Where: Bainbridge Library, 1270 Madison Ave. N

Where: Bainbridge Island Brewery, 9415 Coppertop Loop
Why: Rye and Barley bring the music, BIB brings their new Baltic style Porter, Dog Wagon brings the Hebrew National Kosher hot dogs, and Mother Nature brings some might fine weather. No cover charge.

3. Jump Rope Community Show
When: Friday, 6-7 p.m.
Where: Paski Gym, Bainbridge High School

Free but $10 suggested donation. Wine, beer, and concessions from Bainbridge Bakers.

5. Native Plant Sale
When: Saturday, 9 a.m.-1 p.m.
Where: Bainbridge First Baptist Church, 8810 Madison Ave. NE

When: Saturday, 10-11:30 a.m.
Where: Bethany Lutheran Church, 7968 Finch Road NE
Why: That’s a lot of colons in one title. This session in the ongoing series is about Alaska’s geography and what we can learn from it. Bernard Hallet, Professor of Geological Sciences at the University of Washington, will show how the massive glaciers in southeast Alaska that calve into the Pacific provide clues about our own region when it was under a “kilometer of ice.” That’s when Islanders used to feign modesty about having ice-front property.

7. Earth Day at Pritchard Park
When: Saturday, 1-3 p.m.

There also are three silent auction sections featuring art from local artists, local experiences, and gift certificates and goods from the community. And, as if that weren’t enough, you will be invited to dig into “heavy” appetizers from Gourmondo Catering, dive into wine and beer, and relax into live music, a wine toss (have no idea what that is but it sounds messy), and “plenty of fun.”
